About this Work

Stanfare, for eight trumpets and timpani, was composed in July and August of 1996 for the investiture of R. Stanton Hales as Tenth President of The College of Wooster, Ohio. Intended as a festive and celebratory work, it was performed at the inauguration ceremony on 7 September 1996 by an ensemble of Wooster students under the direction of the composer. Cast in three-part form, the work consists of a lively overture surrounded by a ceremonial fanfare and coda.
