Commissioned by the duo Synthesis, Thomas Rüedi (euphonium) & Raphaël Christen (marimba). This work is composed in three movements:
The first movement, Patterns, is built from short melodic and rhythmic sequences. After an introduction played by the soloists, the full ensemble presents the theme, rhythmically supported by the marimba. A dialogue then begins between the soloists and the ensemble.
The atmosphere of the second movement, Soliloquies, is very melancholic, colored with jazz harmonies and allows the soloists to fully express themselves.
The final movement, Riffs, is a dark and delirious jazz dance that showcases the virtuosity of the soloists.
