Simmelibärg-Suite for solo accordion and small chamber orchestra follows six movements, each of which refers to a different and well-known Swiss folk music song.
These are by no means just new arrangements, each tune finds itself at some point on a somewhat strange and winding path. It then appears in a completely different light.
Helena Winkelman does not, however, give up the exuberant atmosphere of a quodlibet or a crazy dance party. She establishes a bridge between the tradition and the present on which the depth of the human soul and humour dance together in harmony.
A work written for the accordionist Viviane Chassot on commission from the Musikkollegium Winterthur.
