Printer and seller of music for the King
Pierre Attaignant (1494-1551(2?), the inventor of a new process for printing music, published an enormous number of vocal and instrumental pieces by Janequin, Certon, Gervaise, Gombert, Susato etc. His activities were on such a scale that François 1st appointed him "printer and seller of music for the King". The "Suite de danses" and the "Suite de danceries" in our collection are made up of dances by Claude Gervaise on the one hand and popular traditional dances on the other.
