Die Phrygian Phantasy ist Rex Richardsons zweites Werk für Trompetensextett, das er für das VCU Trompetenensemble zur Aufführung beim Nationalen Trompetenwettbewerb schrieb. Es greift auf klassische, Jazz- und Rock-Elemente zurück und ist eine Erkundung der einzigartigen klanglichen Eigenschaften des phrygischen Modus. Es ist dem VCU-Absolventen Marcus Grant gewidmet.
