John Stevens was born in Buffalo, New York (USA) in 1951. He holds degrees in Music Performance (tuba) from the Eastman School of Music (1973) and Yale University (1975). Shout for joy

The title, which translates as “to shout for joy’, reflects the generally celebratory mood of this short “mini-overture”. The work opens with a solemn “fanfare” by the solo trumpet. This theme, based on a tune appropriate to the occasion, is then taken up by the horns and the rest of the orchestra in a fanfare of celebration. This gives way to jubilant new musical material...
