Thomas Stevens (1938-2018)

Thomas Stevens (born 1938, Atascadero, California) was appointed to the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra in 1965 by then music director, Zubin Mehta, who named him principal trumpet in 1972, a position he held through 1999. About Variations in Olden Style

A la Bach

The tuba, invented around 1830 has no original baroque repertoire, so these  Variations in Olden Style were conceived after the Polonaise of the French Suite VI by J.S. Bach and written “à la Bach” in order to fill this gap a little.
