Biography

José Antonio Gimeno

José Antonio Gimeno was born in 1928 in Albuixech, in the Spanish province of Valencia. At the age of 14 he embarked on his musical studies with the violinist José Goterris. He went on to the Valencia Conservatoire, where he studied, in particular, trumpet with Ramón Corell and violin with Ismael Simó. He taught himself the principles of composition and instrumentation. He began his professional career in 1951 playing trumpet in the Banda Municipal de Barcelona.

In 1959 he toured the United States with "Los Chavales de España" [The Kids from Spain], a light orchestra he stayed with for 23 years, playing trumpet, violin, flute and horn, as well as arranging many pieces for them.

José Antonio Gimeno died in August 2017 in Miami.
