Charles Reskin (*1946)
Charles Reskin was born in New York City in 1946. Though he started out as a percussionist, he soon became attracted to the trumpet. During his high school years he played both instruments with local professional orchestras and took private classes in ear training and conducting at the University of Miami. He honed his playing and wrote his first compositions at the summer classes of the Brevard...
Balada was written (as Showdown at the Hoedown) for the brilliant Romm Family Trio - Ronald, Avis and Aaron Romm.
It was inspired by a trip that I took to Barcelona with my lady friend, to whom the work is dedicated.
In the piece, I imagine an afternoon stroll along La Rambla, admiring the old buildings, the vendors, the peaceful ambience. As we arrive at the Plaza Catalunya, there is a street flamenco dance performance going on. After enjoying the show, we move on and return to our tranquil sightseeing.
