One could imagine the little March as a Parade of the Ants; the Chant sentimental as the song of an amorous Tomcat, interrupted by indignant cats; the Scherzo as a little mouseballet; the Valse ironique as the dance of a duck ballerina; and the Finale as the triumphant marching away of the whole menagerie.
